Hyakunin Kimono de Disco KAGAI
～舞～ in 2023

Mount Tsukuba in Tsukuba City, Ibaraki Prefecture, is known as one of the "Three Great Utagaki Mountains of Japan" along with Mount Utagaki in Settsu (Osaka Prefecture) and Mount Kijima in Hizen (Saga Prefecture).

Since the Manyo period (710-794), the area of Mt. Tsukuba have had a custom called "utagaki, Kagai (festive poem or song). This was a time when young people would gather together to pray and celebrate, dance, sing songs, and eat together, and it was also a place for courtship　and is mentioned in the Manyoshu and the Hitachi Fudoki.

Some believe that it was like an ancient disco, so we will recreate the 2023 version of "Kagai" by holding an outdoor disco in the precincts of Mt. Tsukuba Shrine, dressed in kimono.

How to join the Hyakunin Kimono Disco?

Disco area is FREE admission
only for foreigners.

"Dress code is in place."
Please wear KIMONO or Traditional Costume of Your Country.

Kimono rental is available for 4,400 yen. 
Cash payment on the day only.

You don't need to bring anything with you.
However, reservations are required.

How to join the Hyakunin BAR?

Pay on the day.
Buy a ticket for ¥3,000 on the day of the event, which includes two drinks and snacks.

This event will be held at Edoya.
(728 Tsukuba, Tsukuba, Ibaraki, just 8 minutes from Mt. Tsukuba Shrine）

How to get to the destination?

Using public bus
It takes about 40 minutes from Tsukuba Station to Mt. Tsukuba Shrine.
Please check the time table of the public bus from Tsukuba station below:

Please use the nearby toll car parks. 
Mount Tsukuba Shrine toll parking (500 yen per day).
Other municipal and private pay parking is also available.
